The Community Media Center held the meeting in the village of Al-Aqsa University in Gaza in Mawasi Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, as part of a series of activities and events implemented by CMC throughout the month of March in honor of International Women’s Day.
From the project “Promoting a Culture of Respect for Women’s Rights in Academic Institutions – Respect them” in partnership with the German Heinrich Böll Foundation, Dr. Iyad Abdel Gawad, Dean of Continuing Education at Al-Aqsa University, welcomed the attendees from the academies, the staff of the Community Media Center and representatives of women’s NGOs.
Andalib Adwan, Director of the Community Media Center, stressed the need to continue the feminist human rights struggle until achieving justice and equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. Adwan explained that the Community Media Center is holding an open day “Academies with equal rights and opportunities” in cooperation with Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, with the aim of supporting the Palestinian Women Academies Authority (PAC), which CMC established two years ago, and it continues to strengthen its institutionalization for the third year in a row. CMC also aims to provide a space for acquaintance and networking between female academics and activists.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
