Based on two pieces of research carried out at the Autonomous University of Barcelona’s Prospective and Research Laboratory in Communication, Culture and Cooperation (LAPREC), this article analyses how the press in the Mediterranean region, based on the social construction of the reality presented in its reporting, helps establish favorable states of opinion about issues related to women. Both research projects focus on the press in Algeria, Egypt, France, Italy, Morocco, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and the United Kingdom. The analysis of the contents shows the transformations and variations in the sample selected in 2009 and 2013 in relation to the treatment of the subject of women. According to what has been observed, women as actors in public life have little presence in the thematic agendas of the press in the Mediterranean region, so the media should address and highlight the gender objectives and recommendations proposed by international organizations.
