Violence against women (VAW) exists around the world. It affects the physical and mental health of women, limits their control and enjoyment of their own bodies, their ability to participate in society and their presence in public spaces. In Algeria, as in the whole world, this serious problem conditions the existence and daily life of many women. A diagnosis coordinated by the association Femmes en Communication (FEC) in Algiers examines VAW in Algeria and the challenges that the country still has to face in order to put an end to this type of violence. This article is based primarily but not solely on this diagnosis. It exposes and comments on the obstacles and challenges of the fight against violence against women in Algeria, on the one hand, and on the other hand, highlights the impact of social mobilization in the fight against violence against women, especially at the local level.
