This article explores women’s level of awareness of the forms of violence to which they are exposed, their causes and impacts, and women’s knowledge of existing protection mechanisms. It aims to shed light on ways to ensure effective changes in domestic violence such as the involvement of men, the media and religious figures in the fight against domestic violence.
It is based on a diagnosis produced by the Women and Development Association, which focuses on three neighborhoods in the governorate of Alexandria characterized by high population densities, many cases of domestic violence brought to court, as well as by a dominant radical religious discourse particularly on issues relating to gender equality and the role of women.
