15.11.2018 / Created by (EMWF)

This report proposes solutions to help strengthen the presence of women in common spaces, and develop these spaces for better meeting women’s needs and reduce their feeling of insecurity. It proposes structured actions to make transport safer and better adapted to everyone’s mobility. Drawing on the expertise of academics and associations, the report proposes 17 concrete measures for regional policy and 14 complementary recommendations, taking into account 3 major axes:

  • Ensure the safety of women in all public spaces: training law enforcement and transport personnel, implementation of extensive awareness and prevention campaigns.
  • Integrate the issue of differentiated uses of space in urban and transport project in a systematic manner: gender statistics, involve residents in planning, exploratory walks, testing policies and conducting local consultations.
  • Think about public policies of leisure and sports by systematically taking into account the issue of gender equality to guarantee equal access to leisure for all.
