Gender based violence is a complex, destructive and universal phenomenon that contemporary societies are facing. In the case of Spain, the author reviews the different steps and efforts to combat violence in the country, while stressing the importance of considering gender equality and the elimination of gender-based discrimination as a goal to be included in all policies of the European Union and its Member States.
