How do female and male users interact with traditional media Facebook page content? Which representations does this interaction suggest for women as media production subjects and commentators on such production?
To answer these questions, the authors of this study embarked on a scientific adventure attempting to investigate a highly complex, multilevel topic, by analysing 130 titles extracted from 13 traditional media Facebook pages that are as representative as possible of the Arab World. In order to do so, the researchers attempted to investigate media strategies of women’s content representation i.e. how women appear in the media: models, roles. Then they investigated how people receive these contents: how they represent these contents; how they interpret them and how they talk about them in the social frameworks they are part of.
The study also provides several recommendations to researchers, professional media and women’s rights defenders.
