Despite a favourable legal framework for equality of opportunity in the mechanisms for political action and access to political responsibilities, women’s presence in elected positions in local authorities in Morocco remains below expectations. This diagnosis explores measures and programmes related to integrating gender into the management of public affairs. Looking at the case of female elected representatives from Ifrane, a predominantly rural province, the diagnosis identifies opportunities for female elected representatives to be able to play a greater role in running local authorities and developing their regions.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
