Published on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, March 8, 2018, this report shows how gender is one of the most important social determinants of health and stresses that there is still work to be done to ensure gender equality in global health organizations and to implement gender-sensitive programs. The report highlights progress in global health since 2000, including improvements in maternal and child health and a decline in the burden of infectious diseases. It calls for renewed efforts around the Sustainable Development Goal 3 on health and well-being, and to do so from a gender perspective. On the other hand, the report states that there is a need for better concerted efforts on issues such as forced early marriage, gender-based violence and sexual exploitation.
