This document is the final declaration of the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) held in March 2018 in New York (USA). The document calls on all levels of government to take a set of decisive measures for gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls living in rural areas. It also recognizes the diversity of this group and underlines the different discriminations that it undergoes, at the institutional, cultural or family level. In addition, the paper calls for an end to the exacerbated context of gender-based violence that persists in this group and for the implementation of laws that protect the rights of women and girls, strengthen their role in peacekeeping and the fight against climate change, to improve their access to technology and education, to protect the rights of indigenous women as well as those of women’s rights advocates in rural areas.
