Farida Benlyazid is one of the few Moroccan female filmmakers and writers. Her movies often present a unique construction and perception of women’s place and roles, as she tends to reflect the daily concerns of Moroccan women in a male dominated society. In this interview, with Maria-Àngels Roque, director of Quaderns de la Mediterrània (Notebooks of the Mediterranean), Benlyazid speaks about her artistic trajectory and her views regarding the current cultural and social scene in Morocco.
Quaderns de la Mediterrània is one of the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed)’s projects that contribute to intercultural dialogue in the Mediterranean.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
