This study was written for the programme ‘’Gendering the Western Balkans’ EU Accession Processes 2015- 2019’’. It serves as a benchmark for the six countries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia regarding women’s rights and influence. The three areas selected for this benchmark includes women in politics, gender based violence and the situation for women human rights defenders, as these are the priority areas for advocacy within the programme. By scrutinizing these areas, the authors of study intent to highlight the marginalisation of women, and explain how this marginalisation is perpetuated and reproduced.
