This is the 1st report of the Independent Expert on Protection against Violence and Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, presented in July 2017 in application to the resolution 32/2 of the Human Rights Council for human rights (A / 72/172).
The author offers some basic reflections and in particular draws a picture of the situation, particularly with regard to the application of international instruments, by identifying best practices and shortcomings in this area; he draws attention to the problem of violence and discrimination and their root causes; he emphasizes the importance of dialogue, consultation and cooperation with States and other stakeholders; he identifies the multiple, crossed and aggravated forms of violence and discrimination; and highlights the need to support international cooperation and related services to support national efforts.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
