Field diagnosis: Prostitution and trafficking in women in the eastern suburbs of Beirut

27.04.2018 / Created by (EMWF)

Lebanon provides a refuge for many women and teenagers driven away from neighbouring countries by wars and conflicts, as well as some who have come from other countries seeking better economic conditions. Trafficking and prostitution are exacerbated in a context of unemployment and insecurity, where the State is often absent. This diagnosis has been carried out based on interviews with various Lebanese bodies and local associations. It analyses prostitution in the densely populated eastern suburbs of Beirut where many economic and social sectors are established. It also proposes number of measures to prevent trafficking in women.
