The challenges of public spaces on gender equality

This is a survey conducted by OpinionWay for TEDxChampsÉlyséesWomen with 1059 French men and women in 2017.

The survey shows that:

  • 82% of French people believe that discrimination and gender-based violence in the public space are too frequent.
  • 61% of French men are treated with greater respect than women in the public space.
  • 86% of French people expect effective action to fight against street harassment and cybersex.
  • 3/4 of French people fear that their children will suffer from cyberssexism and street harassment.
  • 59% of French people believe that citizens’ movements are the most effective bulwark against the problems of gender equality in the public space.
  • 82% of French people believe that issues of inequality in public spaces must be a priority for public authorities.
