Although women have played a role in all of Egypt’s historical moments, their participation in local councils is still very low. This diagnosis analysed the role that civil society, political parties and the media can play in supporting a fair representation of men and women in local councils in Luxor governorate. Customs and women’s perceptions are among the main obstacles to women’s engagement in public affairs.
This diagnosis highlights different measures that can be implemented to make the society accept women as capable partners in the decision-making process.
