This study maps the main academic programmes that provide gender-related masters and PhDs in the Euro-Mediterranean region with the aim to examine how the academia is dealing with gender and women’s rights issues in this region. This publication is a tool for civil society actors, researchers and students who are considering specializing in gender. Indeed it gives an overview of the institutions best capable to offer the necessary scientific and theoretical bases for approaching gender issues and building more egalitarian societies.
The study also reveals the challenges which the academic institutions face to deal with gender, feminism and women’s rights issues according to their history and context. Moreover, it highlights the current interactions between these programmes and research, society, the labour market and politics, among others.
