The purpose of the diagnosis is to analyse obstacles to entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial intentions of women from the wilaya (province) of Algiers, taking two districts of the city of Algiers as case studies. Those districts are El Idrissi in the Bouzaréah municipality and Didouche Mourad district in the municipality of Alger Centre, they are very different in anthropological, social and economic terms. The diagnosis is based upon consultations of 195 women - some of whom have created an entrepreneurial activity. It examines the factors that limit or encourage them to undertake an entrepreneurial activity. It also takes a closer look into legislation and the role of the State and local actors in promoting women’s entrepreneurship.
