The International Day of Persons with disabilities falls on the 3rd of December each year. On this occasion, the Nujoom al-Amal (Hope Stars) Association was established as an attempt to meet the needs of women with disabilities and to provide them with support for their rights. The studies and experiences of the Association confirmed that the political participation of women with disabilities is strongly affected by these women’s lack of skills and poor knowledge with regard to their rights, the processes and the effective political mechanisms to advocate for their political rights. That’s why the Association prepared and published this Handbook on Disability, Gender, Political Participation and Leadership, with the support of UN Fund for Gender Equality. This handbook guides women with disabilities to become more familiar with public policies and to increase their capacity to participate in political processes.
