Feminization and firms’economic and social performance

12.07.2017 / Created by (EMWF)

This study has been conducted in the framework of a convention between the IPP and the French State Secretary in charge of women’s rights. It relies on statistical data from the Direction de l’Animation de la Recherche et des Études Statistiques of the French Ministry of Labor (Dares) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in the United Kingdom. The segregation between women and men in terms of jobs and hierarchical positions explains one third of wage differences in France. Showing the firms that increase female representation are not, for all that, less efficient, this report reverses the stereotype according to which this segregation proves that some professions are more convenient to men than to women. But above all, the author highlights the positive social effects of feminisation at work: rise of the level of satisfaction and self-confidence, better quality of professional relationships, greater identification to the firm.
