The sociologist Chahla Chafiq questions Islamism from the point of view of the relationship between religion, politics, sex and gender. As soon as a woman gets veiled, she says, this gesture trivializes a sexual sign and symbolizes a femininity subjected to the gaze of man. The condition of women questions the social and political system radically, she argues.
