This report highlights the importance of unpaid work which is largely dominated by cooking, cleaning and caring, and is an important contributor to societal well-being in ways that differ both between countries and between men and women in different countries. The contribution of unpaid work to well-being is both in terms of current consumption (e.g. cleaning) and improving future well-being (e.g. parental investments in raising children). In all countries, women do more of such work than men, to some degree balanced – by an amount varying across countries – by the fact that they do less market work.
