This guide sets out the minimum requirements for estimating the risk of Female genital mutilation (FGM) and provide suggestions for improving the quality and accuracy of these estimates. The aim is to provide practical assistance to those responsible for estimating the risk of FGM in a region or country of the Union. By proposing a common methodological framework for estimating the risk of FGM in the European Union, the European Institute for Gender Equality intends to contribute to the production of comparable and up-to-date data in the EU Member States. Estimates of the risk of FGM provide national policy-makers with valuable information for their work in preventing FGM and protecting girls against this harmful practice.
