This report focuses on the importance of gender equality in economic rights and independence, including access to employment, appropriate working conditions and control over economic resources. The report analyses the effects of part-time work and self-employment, on the economic independence of women and men, as well as on gender equality. On the basis of this analysis, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) proposed a set of indicators and sub-indicators in the area of women and the economy that were endorsed by the Council in June 2014.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
