This report alerts that violence against women has dramatically increased in the Euro-Mediterranean region during the recent years. It highlights key patterns of violence against women, in different countries from the region, such as: Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Libya, France, Cyprus and Spain.The report also seeks to outline the main available instruments, to combat and prevent such violence, and it develops recommendations addressed to the main stakeholders on the issue, namely South and East Mediterranean governments, Council of Europe, European Union, Union for the Mediterranean, and League of Arab States.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
