The author examines ‘’the ways in which gender mainstreaming has been implemented in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) by European Union and United Nations bodies. In addition, she examines the strategies used and the challenges faced by various feminist and women's groups and illustrate how gender mainstreaming is most effective when it involves, mobilizes and establishes solidarity networks with other local, regional and transnational groups" (Nusair 131).
