The tradition of mutilation of the female genital areas has been practiced in Egypt over the course of many years, and has been attributed to being promoted by religion. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a social health concern has been realized as not possessing any health benefits for the women and young girls who are taken through the practice. This article describe this practice, its different types and methods, and its physical and psychological negative effects on girls and women.
