Even though women make up 50% of the population, and 47% of the tertiary education enrolment in morocco, their participation in the labour force still doesn´t exceed 26%.This study questions the low Female Labour Force Participation (FLFP) in Morocco and other countries in the MENA region. It draws on existing literature and statistics, to examine three approaches to understand FLPF in Morocco: 1) the role of social institutions; 2) the sociocultural norms and demographic and household-related characteristics; and 3) impact of demand-side factors on FLFP. Finally, the study proposes policy measures to enhance female participation in the Moroccan labour market.
