This report focuses on the particularities of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with regard to the situation of women and gender equality in the world of business. It casts light on the main barriers to women´s employment and leadership in the region, such as: family responsibilities; culture; stereotyping and women self-perception; access to finance...etc.The report also presents initiatives and emerging opportunities worth pursuing for women, and offers avenues for action, specifically for the private sector and for business and employers’ organizations.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
