‘'Peacebuilding Defines Our Future Now” A Study of Women's Peace Activism in Syria

The aim of this research is to map women activism in Syria – prominent individuals as well as women’s groups. It gives an insight into Syrian women´s activism and on how it contributes to peacebuilding in the country. The study describes the general characteristics of the identified women´s group, their resources and the challenges they face. The facts and opinions presented in this study derive from questionnaires answered by 49 women’s civil society groups, interviews with 35 prominent women leaders and focus group discussions with about 100 women activists in Syria.

The research focused on finding answers to the following questions: • How are women working with peacebuilding in Syria? • What are the barriers for women’s participation in peacebuilding? • How can the international community, as well as Syrian actors, promote women’s peacebuilding in Syria?
