This report profiles 17 Syrian refugee women, who have been subjected to arbitrary detention, physical abuse, torture, sexual harassment and assault, indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas, or discriminatory restrictions on their dress code and movement. It reflects the various roles that women, particularly those opposed to the government or living in areas under the government attacks, have taken on as political activists, caregivers, humanitarians and providers. The report also reports the particular ways in which the conflict impacts Syrian women.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
