This study questions if the foreign financial aid helps promoting gender equality in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region). It examines the effects of financial aid to organizations working in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment. It uses indicators such as the proportions of seats held by women in the national parliaments, secondary school enrolments, adult fertility rates, autocracy and official development assistance targeting family planning and reproductive health.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
