This Article discusses the reasons behind the changing roles of Syrian women, from active actors during the revolution to their marginalization and exclusion throughout the conflict and during the Geneva II Conference on Syria that took place in Switzerland in 2014.It provides best practices from prior conflicts and ways in which policymakers can improve participation of women in the peace process in Syria.The article highlights the informal role played by Syrian women in seeking peace and discusses the reasons behind their underrepresentation on a formal level.
