This article considers gender mainstreaming in the security sector, as an integral part for any reform efforts aiming at greater inclusiveness, effectiveness and democratization of the sector. It highlights the security challenges for women in the Arab region, the difficulties, and the cultural and political impediment for the inclusion of women in this sector.It also explains the importance of gender diversification in the sector and which the important aspects for such an approach are: education, the media and legislations.
