The study discusses Goal 5 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals “Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls”, within the context of development in the Arab region.It reviews the situation of women’s rights and gender equality in Arab countries and discusses the links between sustainable development, economic growth and inequalities from a gender-conscious perspective. It focuses on gender equality as a core element for achieving sustainable development and tackles gender mainstreaming as a strategy to overcome gender inequalities.
