05.02.2016 / Created by (EMWF)

This report is a result from an experts’ meeting about rural women and access to finance in North Africa and it studies the case of Algeria.Women living in rural areas face many obstacles, mainly in their access to education and schooling, employment opportunities, land ownership, in addition to the access to other productive resources such as all forms of financing. This report identifies the main strategies supporting gender equality in Algeria, besides the policies and programs to promote small and medium enterprises, while adopting the gender approach and paying attention particularly to rural women, focusing on the "local knowledge" of these women, and working towards the creation of a Maghreb council of rural women for monitoring activities on female entrepreneurs in rural areas.
