The book is the result of 521 interviews conducted between December 2013 and December 2014, with single mothers who had their children outside marriage, in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria; countries where this issue is still considered taboo. The book highlights the social exclusion and discrimination which these mothers and their children suffer, from their families, the society, and the legislations. The book explains all the stages these mothers live from the moment of their pregnancy, the difficulties and details of each of them, on all levels: healthcare, accommodation, public services, laws, etc. This set of experiments is part of a project entitled "Towards a better social and professional integration of single mothers in the Maghreb 2013-2015" which aims to enhance single mothers’ access to their basic rights, and to empower them on the social and economic levels.
