This report highlights forced marriage as a form of domestic violence. The right to marry (Article 9) falls under Title II ‘Freedoms’ of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.The report questions the roles of civil and international laws in the fight against forced marriage, and questions its links with migration laws. The reports also shares good practices to prevent forced marriage, as well as some initiatives and services to support its victims. This report is primarily based on a desk research, carried out in five European Union (EU) Member States: France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
