This report focuses on means of prevention of Sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) in refugee communities in the MENA region, with focus on the Syrian refugee communities. The Syrian crisis, which started in 2011, resulted in a large wave of refugees in the region, which burdened especially women and children, who comprised 78 per cent of Syrian refugees. The refugee communities live in a disturbed social structure, change of roles, or overcrowded housing lacking privacy, which puts women in an increased risks of violence, abuse and exploitation. The report also aims at addressing specific areas of concern for SGBV prevention; highlighting ways of providing specialized services for SGBV survivors; and strengthening advocacy and partnership improving.
