The document explains the UNFPA Regional Strategy on prevention and response to gender based violence (GBV) in the Arab region by providing facts and information. The forms of GBV most frequently reported in the Arab region are domestic violence, child marriage, female genital mutilation/cutting, trafficking, rape, sexual slavery, forced prostitution and so-called “honour crimes”. The document suggests four strategic pillars: to reinforce positive social norms, attitudes and behaviors at community level; to strengthen national capacity to provide comprehensive services; to strengthen national capacity to strategically address GBV; and to build political will and legal capacity to prevent and respond to GBV.
