The study analyzes the situation of Gender Equality in the Arab countries, in light of culture, Islam and gender relations. It gives examples of women´s economic and political participation in the region. The study explains the feminist critique of Islam and the feminist movement within Islam itself. It examines Muslim Family laws, and the legal status of women in the Middle East, and explains the concepts and differences between Secular, Muslim, and Islamic feminisms. It also focuses on the accomplishments of women’s movements in the Arab world.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
