This report discusses the issue of women’s empowerment in Tunisia, the roots and obstacles, and the effect of political choices regarding state-society relations. It examines the policies related to women’s empowerment in areas of education, health and labour. It also highlights the interaction between changes in law, policies promoting gender equality and women’s capacity to mobilize. It also analyses the changes in different spheres of women’s empowerment associated with the political changes brought about by the “Arab Spring”.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
