This report comes from a large survey (available in Turkish) that analyses how violence against women, notably domestic violence, is defined and seen in Turkey. It also addresses the methods and strategies implemented by the State and NGOs to fight against domestic violence, raise awareness among the population and provide assistance to women who are victims of violence. To prepare the survey, the authors interviewed 150 activists representing 50 women’s organisations in 27 towns in the country. Moreover, they asked 1,800 married women or who had been married living in 56 Turkish provinces to give their points of view and share their experiences in relation to domestic violence.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
