Egypt ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in 1985 through act no. 85-68 of 12 July 1985. This document forms part of the reports that the Egyptian government must regularly submit to the Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women according to article 18 of the CEDAW. By describing the progress made during the period 1999-2007, the report responds to the questions made by the Committee during the examination of the previous report. It provides better understanding of the Egyptian approach to the implementation of the CEDAW in a wide range of areas, such as education, political life, violence against women or marriage.
