This text features the amendments made in 2012 to the Tunisian Personal Status Code enacted in 1956. It addresses many aspects that have direct effects on women’s lives (marriage, divorce, parentage, custody, succession and donations, etc.). Among the most progressive measures of the code are the abolition of polygamy and the non-authorisation of marriage without the mutual consent of husband and wife.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
