This case study seeks to identify the main mechanisms that link gender equality to development in Tunisia, emphasising how the economic, social and political factors have interacted with the legislative and political reforms in the evolution of gender relations and progress in the country. To this end, it examines the emergence of the debate on Tunisian women’s rights in the 1930s and reviews the main social and economic outcomes since the 1960s, examining aspects such as the rhythm and structure of the economic growth and the evolution of progress in the field of education.
