This document analyses the progress of Portugal in terms of gender equality since the 4th World Conference on Women, the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995 and the 23rd special session of the UN General Assembly. It describes the main challenges, financial investments and the progress achieved in 12 strategic areas, notable in poverty, education and training, healthcare, violence against women, economy, media and armed conflicts.

This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
