This report attempts to provide the context for dynamics favourable and unfavourable to the development of women's rights in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It synthesises the existing information on discrimination and violence against women in the MENA region and highlights the national, regional and international networks and women’s initiatives promoting women’s rights in the MENA region and the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP). Finally, the report analyses the extent of gender mainstreaming in the EMP and it recommends how women’s rights could be better addressed by the EU and Partner States.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
