This directive aims to ensure the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation. It contains provisions for the implementation of the principle of equal treatment in terms of access to employment and professional training; work conditions, including salaries, and the occupational social security schemes. It came into force on 15 August 2006.

This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
