Gender equality is a fundamental right provided for by the Treaty of Lisbon and an EU priority policy. This regulation, which came into force on 19 January 2007, officially created the European Institute for Gender Equality whose mission is to help European institutions and EU member states to integrate the principle of equality into their policies and fight against gender-based discrimination.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
